“Agents can’t answer” bar, or the model’s name is red

Agent City can’t reach your model.

  • Ollama: make sure it’s running (its icon is in the menu bar), then press Fix in the bar. The Setup check can start Ollama and download the model.
  • A cloud model: check your key and credit, then use Try it in Settings → Models.
  • On a local model, agents take turns. A question that needs two agents takes about twice as long. Let Ollama answer two at once with launchctl setenv OLLAMA_NUM_PARALLEL 2, then restart Ollama. See Choose a model.
  • Lower Thinking to Low in Settings → Models.
  • Try a smaller model, or give the agents that need it most a cloud model.

This usually happens with Thinking set to None on a small model. Set it to Low.

It’s missing an API key or sign-in. Open Connections and follow the instructions in its row. If it’s an installed agent, you may need to press Allow next to a key you saved earlier.

  • Check Agent City is allowed under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.
  • Some apps (games, apps that draw their own content) don’t describe themselves to accessibility. Computer can look at them but not click.
  • Allow Agent City under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording, or press Allow access on the Meetings page.
  • Check a transcription model is chosen in Settings → Models → Voice typing.
  • Check Agent City is running.
  • Call GET /api/health from the device sending events.
  • From another device, turn on Let paired phones connect in Settings → Devices → Phones and use port 47801.
  • Look at Recent events under Settings → Devices → Incoming events to see what happened to each one, and check the error in the response.
  • Agent City must be running. Turn on Open at Login in the menu bar.
  • Check the automation isn’t paused. Drafts start with automatic runs off; press Save & enable.
  • Turn on Catch up to run once after your Mac wakes, if a run was missed.

Agent City’s log is at ~/Library/Application Support/Agent City/logs/server.log. Restart Agent City in the menu bar fixes most stuck states.
